Type light and Type 2.2 do not implement all possible compression techniques when generating TTF fonts - meaning fonts may be slightly larger than the original. With normal sized fonts (ie less than 500kbytes) this is not even noticable.
You might see 2.2Meg from a 1.7Meg font, or even increase from 8Meg to 10Meg for larger fonts.
I am not sure how 32M could be generated from an 8M font - I would be interested to look into it further if you want to send me the font (8M version!): allanmurray@cr8software.net Generating the output file (ttf/otf) can take a while with very big fonts - Type 2.2 has the ability to save fonts as gfs files (fast) during the development process, then just export to ttf as a final step.

PS. Note Type 3.0 (due to be released in April) encorporates more extensive compression of TrueType fonts, and Type light will also be updated with this after the release of Type 3.0. (2/4/2010)
