Importing .svg file created in Adobe Illustrator

Trying out Type 3.2.  Nice!

But when I import a vector file(.svg) that was created/saved in Ai CS6, the 'artboard' (i.e., the background(bg) grey rectangle —see attached pics) shows. Even if you delete/remove the bg rectangle, all the nodes for the image are there but nothing shows in the glyph preview. 

Why is there this bg?

How do I just get the image vectors (and the glyph) to show up?

Because the foot at the bottom of the image appears to be touching rectangle, deleting it is affecting the image. The solution would be to alter the original image before importing into Type. Either remove the grey bounding box, or expand it so that it is not touching the foot (then you can delete it safely in Type 3.2).

Alternatively, it is possible that you may have the same image 'doubled up' in the original artwork (two paths the same exactly on top of each other) - which is not a problem in AI, but the two paths will 'cancel each other out' in a font.

Thanks Allan.  Your suggestion '...alter the original image before importing' worked.  I removed the background rectangle in Illustrator; then was able to import into Type 3.2.  The paths still did NOT show up in the glyph preview, so I followed your 'guess'—'you may have the same image 'doubled up' '—
and under Contour>Remove overlap and, presto, the glyph showed up and is usable.

FYI the original artwork was a .png file which I then 'Trace Image' (an auto function in Adobe Illustrator; might be where the overlaps came from)
