When running composite glyph creation wizard, the lower case ‘i’ is not included in the results for any of the modifiers.
[Edit/update] I noticed one peculiar thing about the typeface I was working on: neither the ‘i’ or ‘j’ had the diacritic dot in the original character’s design (why, I do not know; I've since added one). Just wanted to mention it in case this impacted the problem.

The normal i (with a dot) is not used in composite creation because the diacritics will end up on top of the dot. So the dotless i is used instead. If you have a 'dotless' version of your i mapped to unicode 0131, then the i composites will be created. You can find this character at the top of the mapping window list called 'Modifiers (auto)'
