I have noticed that some of the fonts I've created look a but rough, though they have been defined with nice smooth contours (even straight lines). The problem is the fact that for displaying on a screen they get turned into pixels, and what was a nice straight line gets made into a wavy line with zigs and zags.
The culprit seems to be lines which are nearly, but not quite, horizontal. Horizontal lines are great, and any lines that are far enough from horizontal look all right. So a warning to all you font designers: try to stay away from a lot of near-horizontal lines (say, with slopes around 1/3).
If you're using the font in a big enough size, you can get away with it; my font, which looks pretty bad in 10-point size, is much better in 48-point. So for fonts intended for display, you don't need to worry so much.
I do not have access to a printer, so these fonts might look better printed than they do on a screen; someone else will have to check this.
