Hi, I'm having an unusual problem with Word 2007, so I installed Type Light 3.2.034 to see if it might help me out. But I'm inexperienced and after looking it over realized I don't have a clue. So I thought I'd see if any of you experienced fontsters might have any ideas. I created a Word .doc in Word 2007 and used two special font files, one TrueType and the other OpenType. They're both graphics fonts. When I saved the document, I chose "Embed fonts in the file" from Word's Save Options. Then I opened it on a computer that doesn't have the font files I used, to test it out, and all the fonts were embedded except one from each file. There was a comma for one, and a w for the other, but no graphic. I could understand if none of them embedded, but since it's only one from each file I'm left scratching my head. If I export the document as a PDF, they all embedd okay though. Would anyone know what the problem might be and if it's something I could correct with Type Light? Many thanks.

Fonts do contain an embedding flag which can be set to restrict embedding, but it applies to the whole font. The freeware version (Type light) cannot edit this flag - only the full version. From what you say, though, it appears only some characters are not embedding? If that is the case then it would not be the embedding flag. If you want to send me your font ( allanmurray@cr8software.net) I could have a quick look at it - but I do not have any ideas at this stage.

Good morning, Last october I bought a license for Type 3.2 and I am very happy working with the program. This week I encountered a problem, not with Type 3.2 but if I understand the above answer correctly I can probably solve it with the program: a colleague made a layout in mac/quarkxpress for me using a certain sans serif font. I cannot use mac fonts on my pc but found a ttf-file of this font on the internet somewhere. However I cannot make a pdf for the printer, as the font says it has restricted embedding. If I make an otf-file of it in Type 3.2. the problem remains the same. Can you tell me how to remove this restriction? I noticed you wrote it can be done, but I cannot find it in the manual. Thanks in advance! Hans

Font embedding rules are accessed by going to font menu > description > advanced. Be aware that you would be violating someones license agreement if you were to alter commercial fonts in this way.

Yes, it works, thanks! The font I had this problem with is a font you can obtain for free from all freefont-sites, yet it doesn't allow embedding... very strange! And thanks again for developing the Type 3.2 program, it's great fun making new fonts with it!
